alpha Kappa Delta Phi Purpose and Mission
alpha Kappa Delta Phi was established in the Winter of 1990 at the University of California at Berkeley. The four founding sisters, Susan Kim, Fannie Pon, Jill Yoshimura, and Reina Yuan, wanted to establish an organization that emphasized Asian Awareness while also allowing Asian American women the opportunity to participate in the Greek System. Since then aKDPhi has become known as the largest nationwide Asian American Sorority with 43 chapters across the nation and is still growing...
The purpose of this Asian American interest sorority is to promote sisterhood, scholarship, leadership, and Asian American awareness on campus and in the community. The sorority is composed of highly motivated women with diverse backgrounds, interests, and fields of study. Each woman, however, shares a strong bond of love, friendship, and sisterhood. With a supportive network of sisters, each woman can strive to fulfill her personal, academic, and career goals.
Our mission is to encourage sisterhood among women, promote scholarship, leadership and Asian awareness in the University, and aide the community through service projects, volunteer work, and charity fundraising. Further, to provide a support group for those in their times of need and to encourage the development of successful women. To accomplish our mission, we will:
* Maintain the highest levels of quality and integrity
* Create an environment that encourages teamwork, creativity, and innovation
* Give our absolute support and encouragement to those we hold dear to our hearts - our sisters
We will measure our success in how well we are regarded by our peers, represented by our community, and supported by our sisters.
Sisterhood
alpha Kappa Delta Phi is founded on the ideal of sisterhood. It is often said that in college, friendships are developed that will last a lifetime. We consider every single member of alpha Kappa Delta Phi a "sister." Sisterhood means more then wearing Greek letters, attending meetings, and going to events. To us this means someone who you can share your hopes, dreams and fears with; a sister will listen to and give you the support you need in good times and in bad. It is having women there to support you through your college and life transitions. The sisterhood of alpha Kappa Delta Phi is unique-- Each sister is different yet special in all our hearts. We encourage you to experience the sisterhood of alpha Kappa Delta Phi, a sisterhood like no other.
Academics
alpha Kappa Delta Phi provides a great network of support for academic endeavors and recognizes the excellence of our own sisters with rewards and scholarships. Academics is strongly emphasized within the sorority. Our educational experience is important so we encourage each sister to strive to the top.
Service
One of the most gratifying aspects of sorority membership is the sense of pride that comes with involvement in community
service. As a sorority, alpha Kappa Delta Phi strives to further Asian American awareness and aide the Asian American community as well as other communities through service projects, volunteer work, and charity fundraising. What makes aKDPhi unique is our continued dedication in promoting public service not only to the Virginia Tech campus but to the neighboring communities as well. Furthermore, alpha Kappa Delta Phi's chosen national philanthropy is breast cancer awareness. We traditionally reserve October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, along with the rest of the sisterhood nation-wide, and strive to support the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Every semester promises to include new and exciting service events which will benefit the sorority and community.
Leadership
alpha Kappa Delta Phi is dedicated to building future leaders. Sorority members are some of the most active and visible student leaders within the sorority, the campus, and the community. Members develop valuable leadership skills through sorority activities and leadership opportunities that will help them in their future endeavors, no matter their choice of career.
The Social Side of aKDPhi
A big part of the college experience is sharing good times with friends, new and old. alpha Kappa Delta Phi provides ample opportunities to meet and interact with people from university campuses all over Virginia and the nation. From social exchanges, retreats, formals, and road trips, the sisters of aKDPhi share many memorable moments.
