What is Rush?

The sisters of alpha Kappa Delta Phi Sorority, Inc. at Virginia Tech are excited to extend an invitation to any individual who wishes to rush and learn more about our sorority. Our next rush will be held early in the Fall 2007 Semester. If you are interested, the Rush Schedule will be up soon with a list of all the events we will be holding next semester.
Check back here to see what's going on.
Also, feel free to email us if you wish to have more information about the whole rush process.
What a Sorority Is...
Many women in college seek something more than classes and casual friends. Sorority membership, which begins as a part of college life, provides a lifetime of learning and involvement. Sororities are sisterhood organizations with chapters at accredited colleges and universities. As extended family units, sororities offer warm, caring atmospheres which encourage the development of the individual. Sororities promote sound scholarship, leadership ability, community outreach, and life-long friendships. Sorority life will help you make the most of your college experience as you join together with women who share your interests and ideals.
What is Rush?
Rush offers a perfect opportunity to explore all groups on campus. Keep an open
mind and become well acquainted with all groups on campus before determining which one is best for you. alpha Kappa Delta Phi Rush is a fun-filled week of scheduled activities designed for YOU, the rushee, to learn more about aKDPhi. It is a great opportunity to meet new people and make new friends! There is absolutely no obligation to join. Furthermore, the sisters of αΚΔΦ welcome anyone to participate in our rush week full of food, games and
entertainment.
Does rushing mean that I have committed to joining aKDPhi?
Absolutely not. Pledging a sorority is an important decision for both interested participants and the sisters of αΚΔΦ. Rushing is a non-commital period of time when you can learn more information about αΚΔΦ and we learn about you. We hope to see rushees attend as many rush events during the week as possible; through these various events, we hope you will have a chance to meet all of us and decide whether αΚΔΦ is something you wish to join.
Do you have to be Asian to join?
Absolutely not. αΚΔΦ is an Asian-American Interest Sorority and we welcome all
interested young women to come out and meet the sisters. We are sorority composed of very diverse cultural backgrounds and lifestyles. We are proud of that fact.
What happens after rush?
After an informal interview, the bidding process begins. Upon accepting the bid, a rushee becomes a pledge of the sorority. During pledging, new members learn the traditions and history of our sorority as well as build the bonds of sisterhoodwithin the pledge class and the active sisters. Many of our sisters consider pledging one of the most memorable experiences in their college life.
What is "pledging"?
During pledging new members learn about the sorority, its national and chapter history, the ideals and principles, the active sisters, and each other.
